Sheppard West station sits at Sheppard Avenue West and the Allen Road, between Wilson and Downsview Park on Line 1, and carried the name Downsview until it was renamed to avoid confusion with the newer Downsview Park station a stop further north. It's a fairly utilitarian stop, more transit interchange than neighbourhood hub, serving bus routes that fan out along Sheppard toward the surrounding industrial and residential blocks of North York. The renaming reflects how much this corner of the city has changed since the station first opened, as the extension north toward Vaughan added new stops that needed names of their own. Reroute plans through it as part of the northern stretch of Line 1, one stop south of Downsview Park and two north of Wilson.
