North York Centre sits on Yonge Street between Finch and Sheppard-Yonge, serving what's effectively North York's own downtown, the cluster of condo towers, the North York Central Library, and the civic centre built up around Mel Lastman Square. Unlike most Line 1 stations, it opened after the line itself, added later to serve the intensifying strip along Yonge north of Sheppard, and its entrances sit mid-block rather than at a major intersection. It's a walkable station for anyone staying in the growing cluster of North York highrises rather than a transfer point, since no other line touches it directly. Reroute plans straight through it on the Yonge spine, whether a trip continues south into downtown Toronto or connects at nearby Finch or Sheppard-Yonge instead.
