Kitchener station sits in the city's downtown, on the Kitchener line between Guelph Central and the Stratford terminus, marking the corridor's approach to its western end. Weekday trains run from 5:15 a.m. to past midnight into the next day; weekend service begins later, around 7:50 a.m., with a similarly late finish. As the corridor's namesake stop, it draws riders from across the Kitchener-Waterloo area, some walking in from the downtown core and others driving from surrounding communities. Being this far from Union, Kitchener functions differently than the closer-in GTA stations on the same line, serving longer-distance regional trips rather than a typical daily commute.
