Ajax anchors GO's Lakeshore East line in Durham Region, between Pickering and Whitby, serving one of the fastest-growing commuter communities east of Toronto. Weekday service starts at 5:15 a.m. and continues past 1 a.m. the next morning, reflecting how many Ajax residents commute downtown for jobs that start early or end late. Weekend trains run too, starting later at 7:52 a.m. Like most Durham stations on this corridor, Ajax functions as a park-and-ride stop: there's no dense walkable core immediately surrounding the platform, so the station's role is getting drivers off Highway 401 and onto rail for the trip into Union rather than serving a downtown-style catchment on foot.
